A brand-new AFGE District 14 training effort for local union leadership launched last weekend (click here for more photos). Designed after a regular university set-up, classes in the AFGE District 14 University are offered on alternate days to that everyone can attend everything. Kicking off with a pep rally, everyone was assigned to a fraternity or sorority working group, and the day started early with pre-class yoga classes. AFGE National Secretary-Treasurer Eugene Hudson opened Sunday's session by praising District 14 for taking on new ways of training and energizing the membership, and national president J. David Cox discussed New Deal programs, which helped create a safety net and helped move workers into the middle class but are now under attack. “Attend your classes, study hard, learn everything, and get re-energized to help us fight the good fight for workers and for their unions!” Cox urged. Attendees at the training, held at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, MD, are from federal and DC government locals.
