Drivers who deliver food and drink consumed by airline passengers at National Airport and nationwide say they are working in dangerous heat conditions and sometimes feel unsafe while at work. At DCA, a full 93% of surveyed drivers and drivers’ helpers reported that the trucks they work in do not have working air-conditioning, according to a report released earlier this week by UNITE HERE. The workers’ employer, LSG Sky Chefs, has refused to ensure that its trucks are equipped with functioning air-conditioning units, citing cost despite servicing airline industry clients that have reported billions in annual profits.
