There’s still time to RSVP for the Metro Washington Council’s Meet & Greet with Montgomery and Prince George's County Executive candidates next Monday. The program will include a reception from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by presentations of the candidates from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Taking place at the Hornbake Library at the University of Maryland College Park campus, attendees will also be able to check out the recently opened exhibit "For Liberty, Justice and Equality: Unions Making History in America." Over 200 members came together on October 21 for the SEIU 32BJ Leadership Assembly in Maryland to prepare for the work ahead “to make our union 100% Strong!” reports 32BJ. “Energized leaders also raised funds to support sisters and brothers in Puerto Rico, bringing the district to over $1,500 (in) total donations from members!” Click here for more photos. Rose Omamo, general secretary of Kenya's Metal Workers union (center) is part of the 20-member Solidarity Center Exchange Program delegation of women union leaders from Kenya and Brazil who were in St. Louis for the AFL-CIO 2017 Convention. While in St. Louis, the group met with Mayor Lyda Krewson, the city’s first female mayor, and will travel to Atlanta, where they will explore with leaders from U.S. unions and nonprofits their strategies for empowering women within their organizations.
