![]() A recent Fox 5 segment covered the concerns that ATU 689 members have raised recently about the lack of proper training for Metro operators, which greatly endangers riders and workers. “We as operators, we're the front lines, we're the eyes and ears, and when they don't listen to us, do they really care about the public?” said Sherard Brown, who has been a train operator for ten years. Meanwhile Metro maintains that their training program is enough to fully teach workers, saying in a public statement, “We believe that our current training programs ensure that employees are well prepared to succeed.” However, as assistant business agent Marlene Flemmings-McCann said about Local 689’s members, “They don't feel they're getting the proper training they need to go out there and handle the trains.” Watch the full video here.
