ATU 689 Turns Out for Transit Tuesday
Members of ATU Local 689 on Tuesday joined ATU locals around the country in observing Transit Tuesday, a day dedicated to reaching out to local communities to raise awareness of the problems and dangers of privatizing public transportation. More than fifty Local 689 volunteers came out to canvass the H Street corridor and talk to riders on the X2 Metro bus line, a line that could be significantly cut once the privately operated DC Streetcar begins running. Transit Tuesday was the kickoff of Local 689’s effort to work with riders on the mutual interest they have in clean, safe, affordable and reliable bus rides. Local 689, which represents more than 12,000 members, also has plans to continue their community engagement efforts throughout the District.
