More than a week has passed since the union that represents D.C. Circulator operators successfully pressured DDOT to release a damning maintenance audit of the system that revealed 95% of buses were so defective that they should have been pulled from service. Yet, according to ATU Local 1764, DDOT contractor First Transit continues forcing workers to drive buses that have major safety defects and threatening to send them home without pay if they refuse. The workers will respond today with a 3:30p "Rally for Fair Wages & Safe Buses" at Columbus Circle outside of Union Station. They will be joined by local riders and fellow ATU leaders from Phoenix, AZ; Toronto, ON; San Mateo, CA; and St. Joseph, MO, who also work under First Transit in their respective cities.
