![]() The DC City Council last week honored the life and legacy of Rick Malachi, Political Director/Organizing Director/Business Agent for SEIU 722. Malachi – who died earlier this year -- was recognized for his “outstanding service and positive impact on behalf of the citizens of the District of Columbia” in a resolution introduced by At-large Councilmember Anita Bonds and presented to Malachi’s family on December 1. The resolution and ceremony acknowledged Malachi’s long-time advocacy on behalf of workers’ rights, social and economic justice, DC Statehood, and the University of the District of Columbia. The ceremony was also attended by SEIU 722 President Daniel Fields, Jr. and Local 722 Treasurer Marchel Smiley, along with Anise Jenkins, Executive Director of Stand Up for Democracy, Free DC, which Malachi co-founded. Malachi served as a delegate to the Metro Council AFL-CIO and was a member of the Council’s Committee on Political Education. Comments are closed.
