Major topics of discussion included the organizational structure of the committee, the 2020 political calendar, and a briefing from David Stephen, the DC Council’s new Political and Legislative Director.
The committee anticipates an intense and eventful election cycle as they prepare for the election of five DC council members and the 2020 presidential election. The 2021 elections for DC Mayor, DC attorney general, and DC Council chair will follow. The committee plans to roll out a schedule for 2020 endorsements in December that will include a candidate questionnaire and orientation for candidates. The DC COPE committee meets the 2nd Thursday of the month at 2:00 pm, and all affiliates are encouraged to attend.
