![]() Advocates, workers, and small businesses from across DC are mobilizing a defense of the Universal Paid Leave Act, with nearly 100 slated to testify at a DC City Council hearing this morning (see Calendar). Several proposals threaten to limit and deny workers access to urgently needed paid family and medical leave coverage. A recent report by the DC Fiscal Policy Institute found that the Universal Paid Leave Act’s existing social insurance model will have low administrative costs, limited burden on employers, and a transparent process for workers, while an employer mandate hurts workers by giving employers financial incentive to deny claims.
