The D.C. Apprenticeship Council’s recent certification of an out-of-state contractor and accusations of wage fraud have prompted an investigation by Attorney General Karl Racine and claims by unions and labor advocates that a bad actor is going unchecked, reports City Paper “We don’t want to be approving apprenticeships for companies that don’t follow the law, don’t pay employees a fair wage, and engage in bad labor practices,” says At-large D.C. Councilmember Elissa Silverman. “We don’t want to rely on bad actors to train employees.” Added DC Jobs with Justice's Ari Schwartz, "This is the story of how our city's lack of wage theft enforcement allows companies to get rich by robbing their workers."
