Join the AFL-CIO, LCLAA and CISPES for a conversation today at noon on labor rights, privatization and development in El Salvador with Magdalena Hernández (right), Organizing Secretary of the Airport Industry Workers’ Union of El Salvador (SITIAPES). SITIAPES was founded in 2010 to jointly represent public and private sector workers at the national airport, including the subcontracted workers who provide janitorial, food, cargo and security services and whose rights on the job, including the right to join a union, are routinely violated. Ms. Hernández is visiting the United States to connect with international labor allies and to share the perspective of Salvadoran workers who are struggling to build a strong labor movement in the face of privatization attempts brought on by United States pressure, as well as the impact of 10 years of the Central American Free Trade Agreement on Salvadoran workers and the economy.
