Electricians turn to paint

Union electricians traded their wire strippers for paintbrushes last Saturday at the first-ever “Across the Generations Paint Party.” Hosted by IBEW Local 26’s Retired Members Club, the party was held to paint the sea container the club bought last year to house some of the medical equipment it loans free to members in need. IBEW 26 retirees  and apprentices teamed up for the project, which was also an unofficial kick-off for the IBEW 26 RENEW (Reach out and Energize Next-gen Electrical Workers) committee “which came out of the IBEW Minority Coalition to address the new generation of electricians, mostly apprentices,” reports Susan Flashman, who serves as press secretary, medical equipment coordinator and recording secretary for the Retired Members Club. The team also enjoyed live jazz music while they worked, provided by Black Coffee, whose drummer, Dick Bissell, is president of the Local 26 retirees club.
