FAST and Mine Workers Dig Deep for CSA
Two generous contributions this month highlight ongoing efforts by the Metro Council’s Community Services Agency to increase general contributions this year to support basic operations. The Food and Allied Service Trades Metro Washington Council gave $3756 and the United Mine Workers of America gave $3000, which will be repeated in 2017 and 2018, for a total of $9,000. “We are confident…you will continue the important work on behalf of Union Families,” said FAST president Michael Murphy (IUOE 99). And though the UMWA provides many of the same programs to its own members that CSA provides locally, “President Roberts would like to show UMWA’s support for your organization,” said Bob Scaramozzino, Executive Assistant to President Roberts. “These generous contributions show that ‘Labor Cares- Labor Shares’ is more than a slogan,” said CSA Executive Director Kathleen McKirchy, “it’s a reality here in our community, and the support for DC-area working families is most definitely needed and appreciated.”
