The D.C. firefighter who took off his own breathing mask to help rescue a senior citizen from a burning building in Southeast Washington last week says he was just been doing his job. "I just gave her my air," said DC firefighter Danny Lovato, a member of IAFF Local 36. "What I did wasn't extraordinary. It's what we're trained to do," Lovato added. The firefighter and woman passed Lovato's mask back and forth in thick smoke until other firefighters could reach them from inside the building. "Once again the labor movement has cause to be proud of the members of IAFF Local 36," said Metro Washington Council president Jos Williams. "The city should be grateful for your service; job well done!" Lovato was released from a hospital Friday and expects to be abck on the job this week.
