D.C. airport food and retailworkers and Ethiopian community leaders held rallies Tuesday at National Airport in the morning and afternoon outside all three terminals, and rallied with DC Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (at right, in yellow jacket) in the evening inside Terminal A. Sixty percent of the retail and food workers at the D.C. airports are Ethiopians, "making the D.C. airports one of the biggest employers of Ethiopians in the country," reports Unite Here 23, which represents the workers. The poor working conditions at Reagan National and Dulles have an outsized impact on the D.C. area’s Ethiopian community, according to the union. Among surveyed workers, 1 in 6 reported that they have experienced discrimination at their current job. photos by Adam Yalowitz/Unite Here 23
