More than 300 union members and their families turned out for NoVA Labor’s annual Labor Day picnicon Monday. Along with the usual good food and fellowship, participants heard from Bricklayer’s president James Boland, Virginia AFL-CIO president Doris Crouse-Mays and former Texas state senator Wendy Davis as well as local elected officials from across northern Virginia. IUEC Local 10 handled the grilling while a quintet from Musicians Local 161-710 provided live music throughout the day. “Once again, our volunteers – led by Sisters Linda Lawrence and Dolores Trevino-Gerber – knocked themselves out,” noted NoVA Labor President Dan Duncan. “We had a beautiful day and a great new location at Fort Hunt Park.” All participants were urged to sign pledge cards to vote NO ON 1 – the Virginia ballot proposal to add Right-to-Work (for Less) to the state constitution.
