Longtime local labor leader and activist Fred Allen has been named one of DC Councilmember Anita Bonds’ Community Cornerstone Award winners this month. Allen (GCC 538C) will be honored for his “lifelong commitment to working families in the District of Columbia” at an award ceremony today at 6:30p at the Wilson Building. “Few labor leaders have made as much of an impact for working families in the District of Columbia as Fred Allen,” said Bonds. “Fred is a member of the Graphics Communications Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, serves as a senior officer on the board of the Metro Washington Labor Council and the Chair of its Political Education Committee. Fred has been awarded the JC Turner Award for Outstanding Trade Unionist of the Year by his colleagues for his work here in the District.
