UFCW Local 400 agreed last Saturday to extend its current collective bargaining agreements with both Giant and Safeway on a day-to-day basis. "We have made some progress over the last week, but we still have a lot of work to do before we can reach agreements that we could recommend for ratification," Local 400 reported. "It remains our goal to get the best agreement possible, and we will not be rushed into a bad deal." The union credited member and customer activity in the stores for the progress so far, as Giant and Safeway recognize "that we are willing to do whatever it takes to get a fair contract." Negotiations resumed on Monday.
