Howard County bus drivers file for union election with NLRB

On November 3, Howard County Public School Bus drivers, aides, and monitors employed by Zum Student Transportation Services filed for a union election with the National Labor Relations Board, seeking representation from UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO. Zum currently serves about half of the students in the Howard County Public School System. MCGEO and Zum employees are now waiting for the NLRB to schedule a vote on representation. Read more »

Union workers rally for essential worker housing in Anne Arundel County

On Monday night, AFSCME Maryland Council 3 joined hundreds of other local union members, residents, and advocates in Annapolis for a rally for the Essential Workers Housing Access Act (Bill 78-23) being considered by the Anne Arundel County Council. The bill would require developers to set aside a portion of units for moderate-income housing for people living and working in the county. Read more »

Last year, DC introduced an expanded range of benefits including two weeks of prenatal leave for medical needs during pregnancy, 12 weeks of parental leave to care for a new child, 12 weeks of family leave to care for a loved one with a serious health condition, and 12 weeks of medical leave to recover from a serious health condition yourself. DC celebrates the 1-year anniversary of Initiative 82

They said the sky would fall, but instead the floor was raised! One year ago this week DC voters passed Initiative 82 to phase out the tipped minimum wage. Today at 1:00 PM Metro Washington Council president Dyana Forester will join One Fair Wage for a panel discussion about the landmark ballot measure and where restaurant workers stand today in the process of earning DC's full minimum wage.
