![]() For years a mainstay in the DC Jobs With Justice coalition, Jean-Louis Peta Ikambana – who directs the American Friends Service Committee - DC Peace and Economic Justice Program – will receive an “I’ll Be There” award at this year’s annual celebration and fundraiser on Thursday. Other awardees include retiring Metro Council President Jos Williams – who helped found DC JWJ -- and Courtney Stewart (right), Chairman of the Reentry Network for Returning Citizens. “When our Councilmembers were considering a raise to the minimum wage, Jean-Louis and his students at Ballou STAY HS were instrumental in securing that victory for working people,” says DC JWJ Executive Director Nikki Lewis. “The students led an advocacy effort, and they knew what they were talking about, since lots of them work at fast food restaurants.” RSVP to the October 15th Awards here or contact [email protected] for more information.
