![]() David Mallino Sr. died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at his home in Missoula. He was 71. Mallino worked in the mid-1970s on trade and labor matters for Congressman John Dent (D-Pa.) before joining the Labor Department as executive secretary of a committee that worked on a national steel policy. In the 1980s and 1990s, he worked for unions such as the Steelworkers and served as legislative director of the AFL-CIO’s industrial department. He moved to Montana from University Park, Md., in 2011, continuing his labor work and becoming a playwright. His play "Ruby," based on the life of a notorious Montana madam, opened in Missoula in September 2013 with a cast that included former Montana Congressman Pat Williams.
