Yvette Martin-Gross passed away Friday, June 8. “Yvette was truly a remarkable labor unionist,” said Donna Brockington, president of the Metro DC Chapter of the Coalition of Labor Union Women. “Her accomplishments, dedication, commitment, dependability, and work on behalf of the labor movement will always be remembered.” A longtime member of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 631, DC Water and Sewer Authority (DC WASA), Martin-Gross formerly served for several years as AFGE’s 14th District National Women’s Advisory Coordinator; the Women’s and Fair Practice’s Representative to Public Services International; Interim AFGE Council 1 President; AFGE Council 1 Secretary and was a member and mentor of AFGE Y.O.U.N.G. She also served as a longtime member of the Metropolitan District of Columbia Chapter of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW); National CLUW’s National Executive Board and the DC Chapter of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU). An avid bowler, she supported the Metro Council Community Services Agency’s annual bowling tournament and Labor Night at the Nats. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, June 25 at From the Heart Church Ministries, 4949 Allentown Rd, Suitland, MD from 10a until the funeral at 11a.
