![]() Virginia labor celebrated Ralph Northam’s gubernatorial victory Tuesday night, after hundreds of union volunteers knocked on tens of thousands of doors throughout the Commonwealth on behalf of Northam and rest of the Democratic ticket. “Virginia’s voters turned out in record numbers to stand with working people and reject the hateful, divisive rhetoric that has taken over the airwaves,” said Doris Crouse-Mays, President of the Virginia AFL-CIO. “Virginia voters have spoken - we must work towards a Commonwealth that puts working families first and prioritizes real issues that impact our lives each and every day.” Crouse-Mays noted that despite heavily gerrymandered districts, “voters came together to enact real change in our Commonwealth by flipping control in at least 15 house districts.” One of those was the 31st district (which contains portions of Prince William and Fauquier counties), where AFSCME member Elizabeth Guzman unseated a long-time incumbent.
