Mike Spiller began his union career as a shop steward at the Maryland House of Corrections for the Maryland Correctional Union/AFT, moved on to be elected the statewide Executive Vice President and then a labor representative for the local. Working for AFT-Maryland as a field staff representative, "I spent the past 17 years strengthening Maryland locals and hard working families,” says Spiller. “I became the chief negotiator for AFT-MD negotiating contracts with Baltimore County government, coordinated multiple political campaigns as the Baltimore coordinator for the AFL-CIO Maryland/DC, and during my time at AFT-MD, I served as the steward for my staff local, OPEIU Local 2, negotiating our contract for the past 10 years. I look forward to doing some great work for Local 2’s working families."
