Nearly 40,000 Verizon workers went out on strike yesterday from Massachusetts to Virginia. “Our patience was simply stretched to the breaking point after ten months of negotiations,” says CWA 2108 president Marilyn Irwin. The workers are members of CWA and IBEW. Verizon workers helped the company make $39 billion in profits over the last three years, $1.8 billion a month in profits over the first three months of 2016 alone, “yet Verizon continued to refuse to negotiate a fair contract,” Irwin said. The previous contract expired last August. Strikers are targeting local Verizon Wireless stores for pickets and actions; watch our website for a list of the locations, picketing times and contacts.
