Letter Carriers’ Food Drive Tomorrow

5/7/2015

Picture
The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will conduct its 23rd annual food drive tomorrow. People are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods such as canned soup; canned vegetables; canned meats and fish; pasta; peanut butter; rice or cereal next to their mailbox...

Letter carriers will collect non-perishable food donations as they deliver mail along their postal routes, as part of the nation’s largest single-day food drive. Hunger affects about 49 million people around the country, including millions of children and senior citizens. And one in four households with a member currently serving in the U.S. military turns to a food bank for food assistance.

"We take great pride in being able to provide food for hungry working families, especially the children," said Ken Lerch, President of NALC 3825 in Rockville. "Letter Carriers see first-hand the devastation of our communities by a Congress of millionaires who only pass legislation beneficial to other millionaires.  Workers must help other workers."
