![]() Local construction trades workers are walking a little taller than usual after the DC Water Blue Plains tunnel project was recognized as "Project of the Year" by the Engineering News Record (ENR). The project beat out 65 entries and "part of the reason for the award is that the project came in on time, below budget, with no accidents," says Dennis Desmond of LiUNA Local 11. In addition to the Laborers, IUOE Local 77, the Iron Workers and IBEW Local 26 logged hundreds of thousands of hours on DC Water's combined sewer tunnel, which will help reduce sewer and wastewater overflows into the Anacostia River by 98%.
