![]() Fundraising for “Love Songs from the Liberation Wars" has passed the halfway mark but the local jazz opera still needs to raise nearly $5,000 to cover performances at the end of the month. "As we sing in the Love Songs finale, 'Love is the unstoppable force!' says director Elise Bryant. "Together, we are an unstoppable force!" Composed by Steve Jones and directed by Bryant -- longtime local labor activists and musicians -- "Love Songs" tells the story of a strike led by African-American women at the R J Reynolds factory in Winston-Salem, NC, an early victory against Jim Crow segregation.
