3/19/2019

Jackie Jeter was re-elected president at last night’s packed meeting of the Metro Washington Council, AFL-CIO. Also elected were Andrew Washington (1st VP), Jim Griffin (2nd VP), Herbert Harris (3rd VP) and Cynthia Collins (Secretary). Eric Bunn was re-elected as Treasurer. Re-elected to the MWC Board were Larry Greenhill Sr, Don Havard, Mark Federici, Chuck Clay, Doris Reed, Jaime Contreras, Dan Dyer, Elizabeth Davis and Dan Fields. Former Secretary Dena Briscoe was elected an At-Large member. New Board members elected were Wanda Shelton-Martin, Robin Burns, George Farenthold and Roxie Mejia.  Steven Frum defeated William Bates in the only contested At-Large Board seat and in the race for Trustees, in which five candidates competed for three seats, Dave Richardson was elected, along with new members Robert Hollingsworth and Djawa Hall. Brenda Thomas was also elected to an At-Large seat but due to the MWC Constitutional prohibition against more than one member from a local serving on the Board (Thomas and Jeter are both members of ATU 689 and under the MWC rules, the higher office prevails), the Election Committee disqualified her election; nominations for that seat will be held at the April Council meeting and the election will be held at the May meeting. “Thanks to the Election Committee for a job well-done,” said President Jeter. The Board will be sworn in at the April meeting and will serve through March 2022. The Committee, chaired by Ann Hoffman, included Michael Spiller, David Fernandez-Barrial and Faye Lawson.
