![]() As part of a national initiative with the AFL-CIO, UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO President Gino Renne and Metro Washington Council Executive Director Carlos Jimenez were recently in Southern California to get a behind-the-scenes look at the Orange County Labor Federation and Los Angeles County Labor Federation. The visit began in Santa Ana, where participants had a chance to meet with top leadership of the Orange County Labor Federation and Orange County Communities Organized for Responsible Development (OCCORD). The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, California Labor Federation, Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE), and CLEAN Campaign’s senior leadership also participated in the exchange on the second day of the learning tour. The goal of the trip, organized by the National AFL-CIO for leaders and directors of six labor councils, was for participants to discuss and learn from one another’s strategies to build political power in their respective regions. Over the course of the 2-day trip, participants examined the path to power that others are taking, and discussed the role key community partners and allies play in contending for power.
