The labor calendar for this MLK holiday weekend includes the annual "Gonna Take Us All" Ball, the Leesburg MLK Day Parade, a Fight for $15 rally and "From 'At The River I Stand' to Janus v. AFSCME." The Labor Heritage Foundation’s "Gonna Take Us All" MLK Holiday Ball, with dance music by DJ Floyd Aaron and performances by DC Labor Chorus  and other guests, runs from 8pm till midnight Sunday at the Silver Spring Civic Building; see Calendar for details on tickets.  Then on Monday, join NoVA Labor at the Martin Luther King Day Parade in Leesburg, VA starting at 10a, and then Progressive Maryland and allies in Maryland's Fight for $15 Coalition will hold a rally in Annapolis, starting at 5p.  On Tuesday, the Metro Council's Bread and Roses series presents "From 'At The River I Stand' to Janus v. AFSCME" starting at 6p at the Takoma Busboys and Poets. The free program includes a screening of the classic film 'At The River I Stand' with intro and post-film Q&A connecting public sector worker struggles past and present with Edgar de Jesus, AFSCME area director for DC/Maryland/Virginia, Andrew Washington, AFSCME Council 20 Executive Director, and David Burbank, president of AFSCME 3399 (City of Takoma Park employees).
The Metro Washington Council and Community Services Agency’s offices will be closed for the holiday on Monday. The Metro Council’s delegate meeting will be held on Monday, January 22, 6:30p at the AFL-CIO.

NOTE: if you know of other local labor events this weekend, please email [email protected] and we’ll get the word out.
