Montgomery County's Planning, Housing and Economic Development committee will discuss the Renter Protection Bill today at 1:30p at the Council. "Everyone is encouraged to attend," says Matt Losak, executive director of the Renters Alliance and chair of the Tenants Work Group, who's on the panel. "For too long in our county, renters have been considered second class citizens taking a back seat to the interests of a powerful landlord lobby that has placed profits over community health and stability, " Gino Renne, president of UFCW 1994 which represents more than 8,000 public employees, when he testified in favor of the bill last June. "We expect this Council to act to advance the interests and welfare of all of our County’s residents, not just the rich and powerful." The Metro Washington Council is supporting the bill.
