![]() "Pray for the Dead," a work-in-progress musical by Gene Bruskin and Tom Smerling, had a reading Wednesday night before an enthusiastic audience of 200 at the ATU Tommy Douglas Center. Intended to be an organizing tool as much as an entertainment, the musical tells the story of a group of morgue workers who decide to revolt against their bosses’ abuses and threats. A union organizer for many years who retired several years ago, Bruskin weaves issues confronting workers today into the musical, asking "Well, what do we do about it?" There will be several more readings in the coming months while Bruskin and Smerling continue to raise funds for a complete production.
