As professional workers are organizing at a record rate across the country, Eliza Schultz of the Center for American Progress reflects on how joining the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union with her coworkers won increased wages, paid leave, and other employment protections. “We chose to form a union because we saw it as an important opportunity not only to enhance our workplace… but also to support the very institution that we know increases both economic mobility and political power.” The NPEU most recently bolstered their membership with 85 staffers from the anti-poverty Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, less than a year after Schultz and her coworkers ratified their contract. “The workplace improvements we’ve seen since May 2017 are just the beginning.” Click here to read more of her highlights; contact the NPEU here.
