Norquist Target of Farm Worker March Tomorrow

Grover Norquist is the target of actions by California farm workers on Tuesday, Cinco de Mayo. A rally and march starting at 8a outside Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform (see Calendar, above), will draw attention to Norquist’s campaign – through his Center for Worker Freedom – to prop up Gerawan Farming, a giant California grape and tree fruit grower accused by state prosecutors of multiple, serious and repeated labor law violations. The farm workers and their supporters will then march to the D.C. City Council, which is considering a measure calling on Gerawan to honor a contract issued in 2013 by a neutral mediator and approved by the state. UFW vice-president Irv Hershenbaum will introduce a screening of Cesar Chavez tonight at the AFI (see Calendar) as part of the DC LaborFest.
