During its July meeting last week, delegates to NoVA Labor stood with its affiliates from the Fairfax County Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics (IAFF 2068) and Fairfax County Federation of Teachers (AFT 2401) to support the implementation of a meals tax in the county, reports NoVA Labor president Dan Duncan. Fairfax County voters will vote on the issue November 8. "Seventy percent of the funds collected by the proposal would be used for public education and public safety," Duncan notes. Delegates were urged to ask their members to write their support for the meals tax on their bills when they eat out in Fairfax County, and to inform businesses displaying anti-meals tax signs that they will not return until the sign comes down or after the vote takes place. Currently, Fairfax County is the only local DMV jurisdiction without a meals tax.
