Cheers went up from hundreds of postal workers on Friday when the resignation of Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe was announced. The postal workers and their supporters – including AFGE, ATU and the Laborers -- rallied at Postal Service headquarters to urge a halt to plans to shut down nearly 100 mail processing plants, which they warn will slow mail delivery and cost jobs...

Congressional Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D, DC) and Senator Jon Tester (D, MT) added their voices to the call on Friday by the American Postal Workers Union, National Association of Letter Carriers, the National Postal Mail Handlers Union and the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association for a moratorium on the closings.

Donahoe’s resignation “shows that the workers have tremendous power when we all stick together,” NALC Branch 3825 President Ken Lerch told Union City. “Once again, militant and passionate action in the streets by organized labor resulted in an impressive achievement.” Lerch added that “We must continue to fight to keep the 82 USPS plant and distribution centers open. The American people deserve a first class Postal Service.”

There were at least 15 people there from the CWA including CWA President Larry Cohen.
