Power Failures Don’t Dim Enthusiasm for Labor Night at the Nats

7/21/2015

Three electrical outages did not dim the enthusiasm by the 7,000 union supporters who packed the stands Friday night for the 9th Annual Labor Night at the Nats fundraiser for the Community Services Agency’s Emergency Assistance Fund.  The first pitch for the Nats-Dodgers game was skillfully delivered by ATU 689’s Larry Lockley, with Kendall Martin, Iron Workers 5, supervising the manager’s exchange of rosters and LaTonya Robinson, AFGE 3615, shouting out “Play Ball!” to get the game rolling. For the 9th year in a row, fans were treated to AFSCME staffer Renee Barnes’ heartfelt rendition of the National Anthem. And this year, Metro Washington Council President Jos Williams and NoVA Labor Federation President Dan Duncan held the tape for the President’s Race which was won by Honest Abe. “With low temps and humidity, a great time was had by all!” says CSA Executive Director Kathleen McKirchy. NOTE: If you still have your ticket for Friday’s game, you can exchange it for another game with the seats as close as possible to the location of your tickets.  Go here to schedule your new game. Photo by Kathleen McKirchy: Kendall Martin, Iron Workers Local 5, Dan Duncan, NoVA Labor Fed president, MWC President Jos Williams, ATU 689’s Larry Lockley, LaTonya Robinson, AFGE 3615 and Karen Duncan, wife of Dan Duncan. These folks’ locals purchased 500 tickets each.
