![]() A pensive crowd bowed their heads in silence acknowledging the 49 killed in Orlando before beginning the AFL-CIO’s latest Ideas@Work series last Friday. Coming just days after the brutal attack on a gay club, the talk by Pride at Work co-founder Nancy Wohlforth could not have been more timely. She re-counted Pride at Work's history, highlighting its struggles to be recognized in the labor movement as well as its accomplishments. Wohlforth stressed that with every gain the LGBTQ movement has made, it has faced backlash of which Orlando is just the latest manifestation. Now more than ever, she said, “we need our unions to be out there fighting on our behalf, and on behalf of our members, and on behalf of it being the right thing to do. Solidarity is defiantly our principle, and we have got to carry this out.” - report/photo by Christian Berk Comments are closed.
