![]() Safeway workers Preston Brown, Reginald Richardson and Suma Gomes are among the UFCW 400 members who have won back pay and full-time positions by enforcing their contracts and filing grievances through their union. Brown (right), a service clerk, was officially part-time but consistently worked over 40 hours per week. Richardson fought for a year to become a night captain at a DC Safeway, but wasn’t being paid at the proper rate. Gomes was also underpaid and overworked due to being misclassified. But all three have been able to solve their workplace issues by filing grievances through their union. “I was blessed. I was happy,” said Richardson. “I got what I wanted after such a long time… I am so very thankful for my union.” Read more about their fights here. Comments are closed.
