SEIU 32BJ’s Jaime Contreras slammed the Trump Administration’s decision Monday to revoke TPS status for immigrants from El Salvador, calling it “heartless” and “the most cruel to date in the onslaught of assaults to immigrant communities.” Contreras escaped civil war in El Salvador, was an undocumented immigrant at age 13 and served in the U.S. Navy. Noting that the overwhelming majority of 32BJ’s 18,000 members in the D.C. metropolitan area and Baltimore are immigrants from Central and South America, Contreras said “It is now up to Congress to pass a long-term solution.”
