There are lots of things Kalima Ramsey and her daughter could have been doing on a bright and sunny Saturday morning in late October. What they chose to do, along with the rest of the “Local 100 SMART Army,” was paint the fire lane curb at the Saint Ann’s Children & Family Center in Hyattsville, Maryland on October 21. “When all was said and done, the curbs, which were pretty faded out, were bright yellow,” said Local 100 SMART Army Director Tom Killeen, the local’s Business Representive. “Our goal is to do four to five projects each year,” said Killeen. “Just our way of showing union solidarity in the community.” You don’t have to be a Local 100 member to join Killeen’s “SMART Army” of volunteers; reach him at 800 492-8004 ext. 198.
