Large-scale rallies in Peru and Zimbabwe in recent days, and Swazi trade unions’ persistent efforts to resist oppression, demonstrate people power in action as workers around the world stand up for their rights. In Peru, workers blocked passage of a law that would have allowed employers to fire large numbers of workers. Zimbabweans took to the streets to protest unpaid wages and lack of jobs and Swazi union members vowed to pursue public action even as they were forced to cancel a planned protest.
