In the at-large D.C. City Council primary races, Vincent Orange lost to challenger Robert White, Brandon Todd won in Ward 4, former Mayor Vince Gray defeated Yvette Alexander in Ward 7 and in a rematch of last year's Ward 8 special election for Marion Barry's old Council seat, LaRuby May lost to challenger Trayon White. In the Democratic presidential primary, voters overwhelmingly backed Hillary Clinton. Running unopposed, Jack Evans won in Ward 2 and incumbent delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives Eleanor Holmes Norton -- endorsed by the Metro Council and the Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO -- won. Labor was active in many of the races across the city, including that of Vincent Orange, the Metro Washington Council's only endorsed candidate in the primary. The general election will be held in November.
