In the end, victory for workers at Tito Construction came quickly. After months of delay by employer filings at the NLRB, the ballots in the union vote were finally counted on Wednesday "and we could tell right away we'd won because the 'yes' pile was so much bigger," said Painters DC 51's James Coats...
The official tally was 28-13 in favor of the union. "Three of the workers were in the room during the count and three minutes after we knew we’d won they’d already texted their co-workers on the job and everyone’s phones blew up as the word spread," said Coats. "It’s a really good feeling for us, a complete vindication for the workers." The next step is negotiating a contract for both the construction workers and for the recycling workers at Tito, some 75 in all.
