![]() WMATA managers continued to disrespect Metro workers this week after a track maintenance crew pitched in last weekend to perform critical track repair work for the Baltimore transit system. WMATA said the crew of 20, represented by ATU Local 689, merely provided “technical assistance,” while the union says it was “essential work” by “some of the best workers in their field.” ATU Local 689 president Jackie Jeter called it “suspicious that WMATA General Manager Paul Wiedefeld continues to bring in unqualified contractors to fix the Metro system here, while sending our qualified maintenance workers to Baltimore to fix the system he spent two years running as it fell into disrepair.” She also noted that the Baltimore rail system problems “shows the desperate need for lawmakers to push for more money to be used on repair of all the transit systems in Maryland.” photo credit ATU 689 Comments are closed.
