![]() The ongoing struggle to save United Medical Center (UMC) highlighted last night’s meeting of the Metro Washington Council. 1199SEIU’s Djawa Hall (in red cap) called last week’s vote by the DC City Council to slash $25 million from the UMC budget a potentially “crippling blow” to the hospital. “This is not just a labor issue,” Hall told the assembled delegates, “it affects everybody, not just in Wards 7 and 8 but the ripple effect will spread across the city.” Washington Teacher’s Union president Liz Davis concurred, saying that “This affects all our members and all DC residents, who will all need healthcare.” Sign the petition now, and RSVP here for the rally on May 28th at 9am at the Wilson Building. - report/photo by Chris Garlock Comments are closed.
