![]() Graduate workers packed the room in Annapolis last week during a hearing for HB 199, which would extend the right to form a union to graduates across Maryland. “It seems like we’re in a real fight here,” said graduate worker Katie Brown. The University, which testified against the bill, “couldn’t refute any of our claims and didn’t have much in the way of actual arguments,” she said. Ten workers testified about the low wages, overwork, and abuse they face on the job, on top of dozens of written testimonies submitted by graduate workers and their supporters. The grads are now gearing up for a Senate hearing on the 20th. Sign their statement of support here, or submit testimony by emailing [email protected].
