Union Voice/Readers Write: Riot or protest?

“Monday’s ‘Today in Labor History’ included the following (emphasis added), Unemployed riot in New York City’s Union Square – 1914’” writes Nick Unger. “Riot?  Who called it that?  The unemployed?  Their organizations?  Or perhaps the media, speaking on behalf of the very people against whom the unemployed were protesting. Did the so-called riotous behavior come after a police attack?  Language has power.  Words matter.”
