DC City Council is set to vote Tuesday on legislation that unions and their allies warn not only threatens good union hospital jobs in DC but could mean the end of Howard University Hospital. The DC Nurses Association and SEIU 1199 are urging calls and emails now -- click here for details -- to DC City Council to vote against the “East End Hospital Equity Act of 2018.” The legislation gives carte blanche to the District and George Washington University Hospital, run by notoriously anti-union Universal Health Services, to open a new non-union hospital in Southeast DC. There's also no promise to provide specialty care at the new hospital and Howard University has warned that that the future of Howard University Hospital is at stake as well.
